What is the Universe Trying to Tell You?

December 05, 2023

What do you get when you don’t listen to your still small voice – which repeatedly has whispered into your ear time and time again, sometimes for weeks, months or even years?

Well, it might come the time that the Universe will hit you on the head with a big hammer! When the Universe doesn’t just whisper anymore ‘Wakey-wakey Darling, time to wake up’ – it will use the ‘big bang’ method – sometimes feeling more like a bus hit you, and it WILL force you to pay attention!

The ‘big bang’ can come in form of being retrenched from your job, getting seriously sick, you lose somebody you love – or like in my case, a relationship break-up after many years.

The one day your life will change drastically – not just in little increments.

And how we hate change! How we dislike getting out of our comfort zone! How we hate to embrace uncertainty and to accept ‘what is so’!

A long time ago, I heard somebody say that the only way to becoming empowered and obtain satisfaction is by accepting ‘what is so’. Because you know ‘what is so’ doesn’t care how you feel or think, or what you wish. ‘What is so’ will not bend just because you think or feel a certain way about it, or have some illusion how it should be different.

And remember: what you resist – will persist! The more you resist ‘what is so’ – the more it will generate hurt and pain for you.

Alternatively, you can start to distinguish two things: what you can change and what you cannot. Discern what you have control over and what you don’t have control over, and respond from that space to ‘what is so’. As it says in the famous ‘Serenity Prayer’:

God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.

This is a process. When you arrive at the acceptance of ‘what is so’ you will experience peace, satisfaction and contentment in your life. Though, be gentle with yourself. Rome wasn’t built in a day.

Start working on the process – instead of resisting ‘what is so’, focus on

  • what you have control over and what you CAN change.
  • a new outcome, a new possibility which might have opened up.
  • gratitude (for what – in spite of ‘what is so’ can you be grateful for?).
  • what you can learn from the experience.
  • the possibility of forgiveness – for yourself and others.
  • Maybe then you will be able to see – that the Universe in its great wisdom and love gave you ‘what is so’ to help you grow, expand, and strengthen you.

In my case, I believe that the Universe has hit me over the head with a hammer, to finally enable me to show and express my authentic Self to the world. To learn to love, respect and accept myself so I don’t fall into the trap of compromising who I am in order to get these things from others. And I learned to trust, and to let it be – ‘what is so’.

What is the Universe trying to tell you? — Don’t wait for the ‘big bang’!
